Several developmental projects worth around Rs. 1,858 cr launched in Manipur

Imphal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated 13 projects worth around Rs 1,858 crore and laid foundation stones of nine other projects worth around Rs 2,957 crore during his visit to Manipur. The newly inaugurated projects include a steel bridge along the Silchar-Imphal highway, a water transmission system at Thoubal, water supply projects at Tamenglong and Senapati towns, and a 200-bed COVID-19 hospital, Among the projects whose foundation stones were laid, include five national highways, an Institute of Performing Arts at Gurugran and a ropeway project in Imphal.

He stated that the North East could become the driver of the country's growth and development.

Highlighting the various works done by the BJP led Government in Manipur, Modi said that the State would stretch its potential through enhanced connectivity and infrastructure.

Mentioning the recent renaming of Mount Harriet on the Andaman and Nicobar Is Lands as Mount Manipur, he
said that now the visitors would look for historical connections. Lauding the performances of the State's sportspersons, the Prime: Minister said that they did. wonders at the Commonwealth Games as well as the Olympics. He mentioned the names of Olympics medallist Mary Kom, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, archer Bombayla and boxer Laushram Sarita

The country's only national sports university is being developed in Manipur so that it can give a fillip to sports activities and improve the coun try's performance, he added.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh also spoke at the public rally. In his speech, Biren Singh lauded the Central Government for introducing the Inner Line Permit System in the State, apart from taking up many development projects including three bridges along the Silchar-Imphal highway, free rice to Merusamnes for is months during lockdown and vaccination drives.

Earlier, the Prime Minis ter interacted with benefici aries of various Central and State government schemes. He also shared a few mo ments with traditional drum mers and dancers while at tending a welcome perform ance at the airport.
