17-day Guwahati Premier League ends amid fanfare

Guwahati: The 17-day Guwahati Premier League ended with a boom as the winning team, Bud Cricket Club, chased 154 runs off 91 Yards Club on March 7 at the Judges Field in the city. The victory of the winning team was by 8 wickets.
The captain of the winning team, Pushparaj Sharma, thanked his team for the victory.

Riyan Parag got the award for the best batsman while Nipan Deka is adjudged as the best bowler.
The Man of the series and Man of the match went to Riyan Parag of the Bud Cricket Club. A group of six teams took part in the tournament.

Business Northeast spoke to Pushparaj who claimed that to be a good cricketer fitness is very important. Parag felt that the practice would help in preparing for the Indian Premiere League.
According to members of the Assam Cricket Association, around 3,000-4,000 cricket lovers came to watch the match on weekdays.

The Bud Cricket Club won the toss and decided to ball.

The winning team received a cheque of Rs 5,00,000 and the runner-up won a cheque of Rs 3,00,000.

The Chief Executive Officer of Rajasthan Royals, Jake Lush McCrum, expressed his satisfaction with the tournament. He is confident that people from Assam have the potential to compete at the national and international levels. He also encouraged women cricketers to come forward and play the game. They are actually working to make women’s cricket more popular.

Devajit Lon, the Advocate General of Assam and joint secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, said that he has seen tremendous potential in Assam cricketers.

The prizes were distributed by BCCI Joint Secretary General Secretary of Gauhati Town Club Devajit Lon Saikia.
The occasion was graced by luminaries like former Assam Cricket Association Chairman Ramen Dutta, Assam Cricket Association Secretary Tridib Konwar, Guwahati Sports Association President Pulok Goswami, former ACA officer bearer Porikhit Dutta and Guwahati Town Club Vice President Tonmoy Jyoti Mahanta.
