22 mineral blocks to be auctioned in Assam to augment revenue

Guwahati: The Directorate of Geology and Mining has planned to auction 22 new mineral blocks to augment revenue generation in this financial year.

According to sources in the Directorate, the Directorate has decided to auction 16 blocks of granite, one block of China clay, two blocks of glass sand, two blocks of quartzite, and one block of sandstone. The Directorate expects that if everything goes as planned, these mineral blocks will fetch the government revenue amounting to Rs 33.61 crore annually.

The Directorate is also carrying out various investigation programmes, like the geographical investigation of limestone deposits in Voterolansho, sillimanite deposits in Samelangsho in the Karbi Anglong district, iron deposits at Lengupara in the Goalpara district, and coal deposits at Larbo in the Karbi Anglong district. An MoU has been signed with MECL for non-coal minerals, and accordingly, MECL has started exploration of sillimanite in the Chipilangsho area in the Karbi Anglong district.
