Guwahati: Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced today that the 5G rollout will begin in 20–25 cities and towns by the end of the year, with operations beginning in August-September 2022.

The Minister stated that while India's data rates are much cheaper than the global average, they will continue to set rates when new services are launched.

India is actively constructing 4G and 5G stacks and is poised to strengthen its position as a trustworthy supplier for the world in digital networks, according to Vaishnaw, adding that nations are eager to prioritize 4G and 5G products and technology created by India. The Minister also mentioned that an important measure to address the issue of unwanted calls is in the works.
When someone phones, the KYC identity name of the caller would be revealed, he said.

In terms of price for 5G services, Vaishnaw found that data rates in India are now at $2, compared to a global average of $25.

"We are currently the lowest in the world, at least by a factor of 10X, cheaper than the rest of the world, and that trend will continue in other sectors," he stated.

The Minister went on to say that the world has taken notice of the country's success and is very interested in the indigenous technologies that are being produced.

"The telecom network that supports mobile phones must be a reliable network. India is at the top of the list of reliable network providers. When India creates a technology, the entire globe takes notice "he remarked.
According to estimates, 5G services will bring in high speeds – around ten times quicker than 4G – as well as new offers and business models.

The government will auction off airwaves capable of providing fifth-generation or 5G telecom services, like as ultra-high-speed internet, for around 4.3 lakh crore. It has also approved the establishment of captive 5G networks by IT giants.

As much as 72 GHz of the spectrum will be auctioned off at the 5G auction, which is planned to begin on July 26, 2022.

Concerning customer complaints about poor download speeds, the minister said that India's average data use, at 18 GB per month, is above the world average of 11 GB per month.

"India's data usage exceeds that of the most developed countries. More infrastructural investment is required. Massive infrastructure expenditures are critical in light of data rates, call drops, and call quality "he stated.

Furthermore, he stated that citizens in places such as Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, among others, frequently protest against the building of mobile towers. There is no need to be concerned about this because India's electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation restrictions are stricter than the worldwide limits, he said.
