70 MW Solar Park at Amguri to boost power industry of Assam

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated today that the 70 MW Amguri Solar Park will boost the state's electricity industry by focusing on renewable energy.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma stated that despite having abundant natural resources, the state has fallen behind in developing its renewable energy potential owing to a lack of good planning.

He stated that the Amguri Solar Park will help the electricity industry and that this initiative will be remembered as a watershed moment in the state's history.

It is stated that in order to achieve sustainable development, renewable energy must be harnessed.

According to the Chief Minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while emphasising the importance of renewable energy, asked states to focus on harnessing the potential in this area. He believes that the Amguri Solar Park will be beneficial in this regard.

The Chief Minister stated that there is a demand for 2200 MW of electricity in the state and that attempts are being made to accommodate the demand by researching hydropower and solar power possibilities. He also stated that the state is on track to generate 1000 MW of power.

The Chief Minister went on to say that the state government has worked tirelessly to revitalise the electricity industry, and as a consequence, the state is profiting from it.

He also stated that the state government is continuing its efforts to make life easier for the people, and programmes like as Orunodoi assist in this respect. He further stated that preparations are being done to enhance the monthly amount granted to beneficiaries under this plan to Rs. 1250, from which they would be able to pay Rs. 250 as power bills. Furthermore, 7 lakh additional eligible people would be covered by Orunodoi, with 7 thousand beneficiaries added in Amguri alone. He further stated that the state government purchased 3 lakh MT of rice straight from farmers at MSP.

The Chief Minister further directed that the transmission line be strengthened and a suitable number of transformers be installed to guarantee that Amguri residents have an uninterrupted power supply. He declared that the Amguri hospital will be expanded to 100 beds. He also announced Rs. 2 crore for the Amguri Kendriya Natya Mandir and Rs. 7 crore for the Amguri Inspection Bungalow.
