7th Industrial Fair at Guwahati ends with a success; new industrial policy promised

Guwahati: The four-day 7th India, Industrial Fair - Udyam 2022, organized by the Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB), Purvottar Prant, from April 22 at the Khanapara Veterinary ground here, ended in a grand success.

LUB Purvottar Prant president Manoj Lundia said that 427 exhibitors from all over the country participated in the expo, which got a massive response with over 30,000 visitors and dignitaries thronging the venue.

Lundia also praised the efforts of the State Department of Industries for bringing 96 micro exhibitors from all the districts of the State.

The Udyamee Samellan and the 28th Staphna Diwas were also celebrated here today, which was attended by the Union Minister of State for Industries & Commerce Som Prakash along with Dr. Krishna Gopal, the all-India Sah Sarkaryawaha RSS, and Sampark Pramukh, LUB, along with Minister for Industries & Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary. Other national-level officials of the LUB were also present, stated a press release issued by Bikash Gupta, PRO - LUB, Purvottar Prant.

Special seminars were also held during the expo where relevant speakers enlightened the prospective entrepreneurs of the region on topics like Banking & Finance, Industrial policy, and its impact. Renewable energy, Agri wood, Industries related to petroleum, Waste management, Food processing, Tourism & Handicrafts, Export promotion, etc. Experts from Amazon and Flipkart spoke on E-market access.

Dr. Krishna Gopal said a peaceful atmosphere has been created in the Northeast region in the last few years and there is a good logistic connection in the entire region. "The region has good climatic conditions throughout the year compared to other States, which in turn creates opportunities for budding entrepreneurs. The NE region has great export opportunities in food processing, handloom, handicrafts, etc., and can be an export hub to the ASEAN and BBN countries," he said.

Chandra Mohan Patowary, in his speech, thanked the Central ministry for the support and requested a new Industrial Policy for the sustainable growth of Assam and the NE region. He also praised LUB for its consistent efforts for the industrial development of the State and the region.

Union minister Som Prakash said that India has become a top investment destination for the world. The Central government has boosted the MSME sector by encouraging investments and growth. Only Indian MSMEs can participate in tenders up to Rs 200 crore, he pointed out.

Prakash also assured that a New Industry Policy for the Northeast is on the anvil, which will have minimal departmental interference for maximum industrialization.

The expo was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister for MSME Narayan Rane, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister for Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal, MPs, top officials from Rubber Board, Coir Board, ASIDC, AIIDC, along with other officials and dignitaries, the release added.
