Guwahati: International flights to begin from Tripura and Manipur

International flights from Imphal Airport in Manipur and Agartala Airport in Tripura will soon be introduced providing a significant boost to aviation connectivity in the Northeast.

Under the Centre’s UDAN programme, neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar will have air connections with both Tripura and Manipur.

“Flights from two Northeastern states to Myanmar and Bangladesh will soon begin”, said Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday as he flagged off the first flight from Donyi Polo Airport, the first Greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh.

He also claimed that the administration is attempting to improve aviation connectivity in the Northeast.

In order to improve international aviation connection in the area, flights will shortly begin from Imphal to Mandalay and Agartala to Chittagong. He also said that there are now a total 16 airports in the North East which is a rise from 9 in 2013-2014.
