Air Asia to start Guwahati-Kuala Lumpur flight from August

Guwahati: Air Asia will start a flight service between Guwahati in Assam and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from August 2024 onwards.

"The Malaysia-bound flight will be an Airbus  320 with a seating capacity of 180", Utpal Baruah, Chief Airport Officer at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), informed Business North East.

According to officials that this platform spoke to, people in Guwahati looking to vacation in tourist paradise Malaysia can purchase a ticket for only Rs 5666. Air Asia is taking bookings till May 31 and flights will be outbound from August 1, 2024, to June 17, 2025. As per the Yatra.com travel website, one can save upto Rs 3000 on a direct flight.

Indian passport holders travelling to Malaysia from 1 December 2023 until 31 December 2024 are eligible for visa-free entry into Malaysia, which permits a stay of up to 30 days for each entry and visit to the country.

Last year in December,  a new flight was also launched between Guwahati and Bangkok, another popular destination for tourists. In 2023 alone, over 1.6 million Indian travelers, visited Thailand, making the country the fourth-largest source market for Thailand. These tourists spent more than $1.7 billion.

The Guwahati International Airport, located in Guwahati, Assam, India, is managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and also serves as an Indian Air Force base. Named after freedom fighter Gopinath Bordoloi, the airport is undergoing renovations to handle increased air traffic.

The Airport Authority of India aims to make it a major international airport connecting South East Asia with India.
