Guwahati: Bharti Airtel ("Airtel"), India's leading communications solutions provider, announced today the successful testing of the country's first 5G Private Network at the Bosch Automotive Electronics India Pvt Ltd (RBAI) plant in Bengaluru. Airtel's on-premise 5G Captive Private Network was created using the Department of Telecom's experimental 5G spectrum (DoT).

Using the trial spectrum, Airtel built two Industrial grade use cases for quality improvement and operational efficiency at Bosch's cutting-edge manufacturing facilities. 5G technologies, such as mobile broadband and ultra-reliable, low-latency communications, pushed automated processes in both situations, allowing for speedier scale-up and lower downtime.

The private network built upon the trial spectrum at the Bosch site can manage thousands of linked devices while providing multi-GBPS performance. The private 5G network delivers better dependability, increased security, and enormous flexibility, liberating operations from wire dependence and allowing Bosch to reap the benefits of automated operations.

Quality and efficiency are critical tools for measuring in any production setting. Bosch Manufacturing Execution System was able to drastically reduce the time required to assess the quality of surface-mounted devices using the Airtel 5G Captive Private Network. Bosch Manufacturing Execution System makes the process more efficient by providing quicker data flow over a highly dependable and secure network to an AI/ML server for real-time decision making (MES).

Airtel 5G's lightning-fast, low latency, and high speed also assisted Bosch shop floor managers and operators in identifying and resolving issues in real-time, lowering the Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).

"Airtel is committed to India's digital transformation and supporting the development of its enterprise as they aim to attain global scale," said Ajay Chitkara, Director and CEO - of Airtel Business. We think that Airtel has the world-class infrastructure, alliances, and skills to provide Captive Private Network Solutions in any area of the country and to any size organization."

"The low latency and dependable connection offered by the Airtel Private 5G network at our facilities during the proof of concept is helping us to boost our efficiency and production," says Subhash P, Head of Technical Functions, Bosch Automotive Electronics India.

The use of 5G will dramatically reduce IT wired infrastructure while improving operational efficiency."

Airtel is at the forefront of 5G technology in India, exploring several vertical industry use cases with multiple partners and in multiple regions as part of its #5GforBusiness initiative. Airtel successfully showed India's first 5G experience on a live 4G network in Hyderabad last year. It also exhibited India's first rural 5G experiment and the first 5G cloud gaming experience. Airtel has teamed together with major global consulting and technology organizations and brands to test 5G-based solutions as part of #5GforBusiness.
