Airtel expands its network to India’s farthest corners

Guwahati: Isolated areas such as Ladakh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will soon have broadband access.

Bharti Airtel ("Airtel"), India's leading communications solutions provider, today announced the launch of Airtel Xstream Fiber, a Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) broadband service in Ladakh and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Airtel is the first private ISP to deploy FTTH broadband in these isolated areas, providing customers with world-class digital access by connecting them to the data superhighway.

Sh. K. Rajaraman, Secretary - Department of Telecom, Government of India, remarked on the occasion, "We congratulate Airtel on the introduction of its FTTH service in Ladakh and Andaman & Nicobar." The inauguration of the underwater cable link  by Prime Minister of India between Chennai and Port Blair last year delivered high-speed data connectivity to the region as part of the Government's Digital India goal.  It's heartening to see commercial carriers like Airtel taking steps to deliver high-speed broadband to residents in this area."

"We are happy to provide Airtel Xstream Fiber's high-quality internet experience to these regions," stated Vir Inder Nath, CEO of Bharti Airtel's Broadband division. The post-pandemic era has seen an increase in demand for high-speed internet in homes, particularly for work-from-home, online learning, and online entertainment.

Airtel is aggressively investing to meet this consumer requirement, with plans to expand its FTTH coverage to 2000 towns throughout the nation over the next three years, contributing to a digitally connected India." Customers in Leh, Ladakh, and Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands may now get high-speed broadband with Airtel Xstream Fiber. In the next months, the business intends to expand the service to additional significant regional areas.
