In a move to improve agricultural and processed food spreads from the North-Eastern Region, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, prearranged an International Conclave cum Buyer-Seller Meet (IBSM) at the Kalawangpo Convention Hall, Tawang.

The event witnessed participation from 11 international buyers on behalf of three countries—UAE, Nepal, and Bhutan, 17 Indian exporters from seven States and Union Territories, and over 200 farmers from across Arunachal Pradesh.

While delivering his speech, Chief Minister Pema Khandu highlighted the state's promise to develop the agriculture and allied sectors to uplift farmer livelihoods, enable Self-Help Groups, and foster women-led development. Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s rich agri-diversity, he called for greater export promotion of GI-tagged Khaw Tai Rice (Khamti Rice), Mandarin Orange, Kiwi, Apple, Persimmon, and Yak Cheese (Churpi), particularly to Southeast Asian and ASEAN markets. He advised both domestic and global buyers to discover and invest in the unexploited potential of the region.

State Agriculture Minister Gabriel Denwang Wangsu stressed the significance of capacity building and awareness among farmers to ensure they receive fair value for their produce in both domestic and international markets. He acclaimed the dedication of farmers in cultivating premium quality produce such as Kiwi, Mandarin Oranges, Apples, Walnuts, and value-added products, including wines.

The event was graced by Chief Secretary Manish Gupta, former Union Agriculture Secretary Siraj Hussain, and APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev, along with senior officials from both central and state governments.

Speaking at the conclave, APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev underscored the importance of integrating Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) into national and international trade platforms. He reaffirmed APEDA’s commitment to building infrastructure, offering training, and enhancing market access for exporters and producers in Arunachal Pradesh. He also highlighted the need for branding and global promotion of the state’s agricultural and value-added products.

The Buyer-Seller Meet facilitated direct B2B interactions between international buyers and Indian exporters from states such as Assam, Maharashtra, Delhi, Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat, and West Bengal. More than 50 FPOs and 200 local farmers engaged in deliberations, showcasing their produce and exploring market networks.

The conclave also featured thematic discussions on sectors including Organic Produce, Millet, Honey, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, Spices, Tea, and Processed Foods, aiming to solve new openings for the region’s agri-business and export ecosystem.

This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit North East” with coordinated efforts by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and APEDA to drive sustainable progress in the area.
