Arunachal Pradesh seeks Centre's intervention for boosting dairy sector.

Agriculture Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Tage Taki has sought the Centre’s intervention in boosting state’s dairy sector on the sideline of World Dairy Summit. The summit was organised by the National Dairy Development Board on September 12. The theme of the summit was “ Dairy for Nutrition and Livelihood”.

Dairy farming is an important source of livelihood in Arunachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Pema Khandu had started the White Revolution Scheme in the lower Subansiri district a year ago. The programme was launched by the Deputy Commissioner of the district, Somcha Lowang.

Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, once considered as a subsidiary activity has now changed with the trend of more farmers opting for the livestock and poultry rearing for their livelihood and nutritional security. It has also led this department to be a major department of the state.

In 2021, milk production in Arunachal Pradesh was 43, 890 tonnes. The same was 60, 630 tonne in the previous year, an all-time high. This shows that there is a decrease in the production of milk. The data of milk production in Arunachal Pradesh is updated yearly through 24 observations. The production was record low in 2012 with 21, 930 tonne production.

The agricultural minister was accompanied by the agricultural secretary, Bidol Tayeng.

Taki further had discussions with Union Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Parshottam Rupala and sought the centre’s intervention for the augmentation. The Union Minister assured to provide all necessary support like inputs and other support for the growth of the dairy sector in the state.

The summit was attended by a host of dairy scientists, technocrats, policymakers, entrepreneurs and farmers from across the globe.
