Goalpara: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for AYUSH has laid the foundation for Assam's second Ayurvedic College in Dudhnoi town in the Goalpara district.

The college will be built with an investment of Rs 30 crores and will be adjacent to the integrated Ayush Hospitals, which were inaugurated by Sonowal in July 2023.

The new college will be developed on 93 bighas of land and will be completed within 30 months, officials said. The state's Public Works Department (PWD) will be the executing agency.

The Ministry of Ayush approved the proposal for the establishment of this Ayurvedic College in 2022-23.

It is to be noted that the first Ayurvedic College was established way back in 1948 in Guwahati by Gopinath Bordoloi, the first Chief Minister of the state.

"The college will have one G+3 College building, one boys hostel, one girls hostel, staff quarter, principal’s quarter, among other types of equipment, furniture, books, etc", said an official.

"The college will have a student intake capacity of 100 students, with provisions for postgraduate courses later on", said an official. "The infrastructure will feature top-class research laboratories for intra-and interdisciplinary research."
