Guwahati: In a heartwarming development that recognizes the unwavering dedication of Ex-Servicemen to their nation, Assam University, Silchar, has taken a monumental step towards empowering these brave individuals.

On October 3, 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Assam University and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare Assam, opening doors to a brighter future for those who have dedicated a significant part of their youth in service to the nation.

Ex-Servicemen, often unsung heroes who have tirelessly served the country with unflinching dedication and devotion, will now have the opportunity to pursue higher education and receive a graduation degree. This landmark agreement was made possible through the tireless efforts of Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath, Registrar of Assam University, and Brigadier Dinesh Chandra Mazumdar (Retd), Director of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam. The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Chancellor Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha (Retd) and Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice Chancellor of Assam University.

One of the most significant advantages of this initiative is that it will render Ex-Servicemen eligible for various job opportunities, with a 2% reservation sanctioned by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Rajya Sainik Board meeting. This reservation aims to recognize the unique skill set and capabilities possessed by Ex-Servicemen, providing them with the chance to prove their worth in the civilian job market.

The Armed Forces are known for producing highly disciplined and competitive professionals through rigorous training across different disciplines. They are well-versed in modern technology and excel in administrative roles, making them valuable assets to society.

The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone in the journey of Ex-Servicemen, offering them a ray of hope and a path to a brighter future. This partnership between Assam University and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare is not just an educational endeavor; it is a welfare measure that aims to assist Ex-Servicemen in their rehabilitation and transition to civilian life.
