Assam will soon become healthcare hub of South East Asia: Himanta

Guwahati: A day after launching six new health care projects, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that Assam will soon become the healthcare hub for South East Asia.

Taking to twitter, Mr Sarma said “Assam will soon become the healthcare hub for South East Asia. Before 2014, we had only a handful of medical colleges. Now, we aim to have 25. Yesterday was a day dedicated to healthcare — from launching tech enabled projects to administering convocation oath for health graduates”.

On Tuesday, Mr Sarma inaugurated 10 bedded ICU project; the National Emergency Life Support Skill Centre, Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH); Molecular Oncology Lab, State Cancer Institute, GMCH; Multidisciplinary Research Unit, GMCH; 32 Slice Computed Tomography (CT) Scan machine; Asset Management Portal for Medical Colleges.

According to Economic Survey of 2022-23, the status of health infrastructure has been improving in the state. At present there are 8 medical colleges and hospitals, 25 civil hospitals, 3 TB hospitals, 3 leprosy hospitals, 1 cancer hospitals etc.
The survey pointed out that for sustainable health care facilities in the state, government has concentrated on efforts towards establishment of an efficient health care and family welfare system through effective planning.
