Kohima: Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya (Nagaland) Project carried out a series of biodiversity-based conservation activities through micro-planning in several project villages across Kohima, Mokokchung, Peren, Wokha and Tuensang districts from May 2-20 as part of the ‘Meri LIFE’ campaign.

The Project focused on raising awareness about biodiversity conservation and encouraged individuals to make pledges to strengthen conservation efforts. Discussions were held on biodiversity protection and a conservation plan, emphasising the importance of preserving and protecting the region’s biodiversity.

The primary objective of the Project is to achieve sustainable management of biodiversity-rich connected Community Conservation Areas in targeted landscapes. It aims to support the communities dependent on these resources by creating opportunities for biodiversity-based livelihoods. It also focuses on ensuring access to and sharing of benefits derived from biodiversity, as well as building resilience to climate change.

By implementing these activities and initiatives, the Project is working towards the preservation of biodiversity, promoting sustainable practices and empowering local communities. Such efforts are crucial for maintaining the delicate ecological balance in the Himalayan region and safeguarding the natural resources for future generations.
