Brazil bans Apple from selling iPhones without charger.

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security in Brazil has banned the sale of any iPhone without chargers in the country. this is applicable for models above the iPhone 12.

Further, it has also suspended the business of Apple with a fine of 12.2 million Brazilian Reals. This is over the existing UDS 2 million fine that Apple incurred in 2021 after it announced that it would be selling the iPhone 12 without a charging brick in the box.

Moreover, the ministry rejected the arguments given by Apple.

The company argued that the move is a major effort to reduce carbon emissions. But the ministry argued that no substantial evidence proved environmental protections by selling the smartphone without a charger.

Apple said it will appeal the decision while continuing to work with Brazilian consumer protection agency Senacon to iron out the concerns.

Apple discontinued the sale of chargers with iPhones from its iPhone 12 series in 2020 which would continue in after models as well. Apple argued that this move is a major effort to reach its environmental goals and reduce carbon costs.

Price of an Apple adapter in India is Rs 1900 approximately.
