The café at Gana Sewa Bhawan in Assam Secretariat, Dispur, will sell millet-based snacks and meals. The aim is to bring awareness on the nutritious food grain, increase production and consumption and raise farmers’ incomes. It is an initiative under the Assam Millets Mission (AMM) that was launched on November 16 last year.

Inaugurating the café, Sarma said millets are full of nutrition and are suitable to be cultivated in Assam. “In celebrating the International Year of Millets 2023, we need to popularise millets and its consumption. The millet café on the premises of the Assam Secretariat is a step towards this endeavour,” he added.

The millet café will be run by women entrepreneur Surabhi Borgohain in association with Rigdam Foods.
