Guwahati: The Coal Ministry has created a National Mission Statement to attain 100 MT of coal gasification by 2030.

"Coal gasification has a bright future." It is seen as a greener alternative to coal combustion. "Gasification facilitates the exploitation of coal's chemical qualities," VK Tiwari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, said yesterday at the National Mineral Congress in New Delhi.

According to Tiwari, technical developments are allowing for higher coal recovery, greater flexibility in mining operations, increased productivity, increased safety, and cheaper costs.

"In order to meet present and future demands, businesses must adopt new technologies and establish digital infrastructure." "There is a need to ensure that technology is used optimally in the sector," the additional secretary stated.

Talking about the issues in the aluminum business, Tiwari stated that India is blessed with enormous bauxite resources totaling 3,896 million tonnes to cover its future needs; nevertheless, he noted that India's reserves account for only 17 percent of its total resources, totaling 656 million tonnes. "There is an urgent need to turn such resources into proved reserves in order to increase bauxite production." "We also need to devise strategies for using scrap to create high-quality products," he added.

The additional secretary discussed the roadmap from coal to hydrogen and stated that India's hydrogen consumption is expected to climb to 11.7 million tonnes by 2030, up from 6.7 million tonnes currently. "Currently, refineries and fertiliser factories are the major users of hydrogen generated from natural gas." It may be created from coal during the coal gasification process," he stated.
