Dibrugarh-Pasighat flight to bolster the NE connectivity: MoCA

Guwahati: To further bolster the air connectivity in the Northeast, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) will launch the first flight of the Dornier Do-228 from Dibrugarh to Pasighat on Tuesday.

Alliance Air will be India's first commercial airline to fly the India-made aircraft for civil operations.

The ministry will also inaugurate the first FTO (Flying Training Organisation) for the northeastern region at Lilabari on the same day.

"In a bid to further boost air connectivity of the northeastern region with the rest of the country, the MoCA has approved a scheme providing air connectivity and aviation infrastructure in the region to promote air connectivity in the States of NER and, if required, to develop infrastructure for air connectivity," an official said.

Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia will attend the programme along with the Chief Ministers of Assam and Arunachal Prade sh Himanta Biswa Sarma and Pema Khandu, respectively. Secretary, Ministry of Civil

Aviation, Rajiv Bansal along with other senior officials of the ministry will also be present in the programme.

The official said that the development of the northeastern region is not only of strategic importance but is also part of India's growth story.

"Connectivity in NER is very essential and under the 'Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN)', the Regional Connectivity Scheme, the MoCA has identified NER as a priority area. This has helped in enhancing the inter and in regional connectivity." the official said.
