Shillong: Health and Family Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for upgrading the Sawsymper Sub-Centre in the East Khasi Hills district into a Primary Health Centre (PHC).

The government is committed to ensuring better health services to the people of the region and the PHC is a testimony to the efforts to make quality healthcare accessible to the people both in urban and rural areas as well Lyngdoh said.

She urged the headmen of all the villages to work with the department for arrangements such as signing and handing over land related to the project.

She also appreciated local MLA Ollan Singh Suin who often met her to remind her about this program. "All parents should come forward to this centre for the betterment of their child", she advised.

"This day, our long dream of having a PHC is fulfilled and the people of this area will be benefited from this centre", Ollan Singh Suin stated.

Apart from the minister and the MLA, many top officials of the Meghalaya government were present on the occasion.
