Eight core sectors' output grows by 8.4% in April

Guwahati: Over the previous year, the index of eight core industries climbed by 8.4%.

When compared to the April 2021 Index, the total index of Eight Core Industries has grown by 8.4%. The index was presently at 143.2 in April 2022, representing an 8.4% growth (provisional).

Coal, electricity, refinery products, fertilisers, cement, and natural gas output rose in April 2022 compared to the previous year.

The Office of Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), announced the Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) for April 2022 today.

ICI tracks combined and individual production performance in eight major industries: coal, crude oil, natural gas, refining products, fertilizers, steel, cement, and electricity. The weight of products covered in the Index of Industrial Production is 40.27 percent of the weight of the Eight Core Industries (IIP).

The final growth rate of the Index of Eight Core Industries for January 2022 has been changed from 3.7 percent to 4.0 percent. When compared to the same time in the previous fiscal year, the ICI growth rate for April-March 2021-22 was 10.4 percent (P).

The summary of the Index of Eight Core Industries-

Coal output (weight: 10.33%) grew by 28.8 percent in April 2022 compared to April 2021. Its cumulative index climbed by 8.5% from April to March 2021-22 compared to the same time the prior year.

Crude Oil–Crude Oil output (weight: 8.98%) fell by 0.9% in April 2022 compared to April 2021. Its cumulative index fell by 2.6% from April to March 2021-22 compared to the same period the previous year.

Natural Gas - Natural gas output (weight: 6.88%) grew by 6.4% in April 2022 compared to April 2021. Its cumulative index climbed by 19.2 percent from April to March 2021-22 compared to the same period the previous year.

Petroleum Refinery Products–Petroleum Refinery output (weight: 28.04%) grew by 9.2% in April 2022 compared to April 2021. Its cumulative index climbed by 8.9 percent from April to March 2021-22 compared to the same period the previous year.

Fertilizers - Fertilizer output (weight: 2.63%) grew by 8.7 percent in April 2022 compared to April 2021. Its cumulative index improved by 0.7% from April to March 2021-22 compared to the same period the prior year.

Steel - Steel output (weight: 17.92%) fell 0.7% in April 2022 compared to April 2021. Its cumulative index climbed by 17.1% from April to March 2021-22 compared to the same period the previous year.

Cement output (weight: 5.37%) grew by 8.0% in April 2022 compared to April 2021. Its cumulative index climbed by 20.8 percent from April to March 2021-22 compared to the same period the previous year.

Electricity generation (weight: 19.85%) grew by 10.7 percent in April 2022 compared to April 2021. Its cumulative index grew by 8.0% from April to March 2021-22 compared to the same period the previous year.
