Guwahati: The government of Arunachal Pradesh is seeking to find additional native items that may be GI-tagged.

Geographical Indications (GI) tags are a strong instrument for displaying the uniqueness and different qualities of a product while competing in the worldwide market.

"Our Arunachali oranges have been GI-tagged." "We should endeavour to discover more indigenous items that may be GI labelled," Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said today at a global buyer-seller meet hosted by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.

"As Arunachal is an agri based economy, we must promote sustainable & organic agriculture in the state with the use of technology. Using technologies like drones, soil & terrain mapping using geo-sensors could help our farmers in increasing their agriculture produce" Khandu said.

The buyer-seller encounter was organized in collaboration with the National Design Centre, the Ministry of Textiles, the Government of India, and the Arunachal Pradesh Agricultural Department.

Over 50 participants from all eight North-Eastern states showed a diverse range of agricultural goods, while over 20 purchasers from India, the United States, Melbourne (Australia), Ghana (East Africa), Indonesia, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Nepal attended the buyer-seller meet. The event featured fresh fruits and vegetables, processed foods, rice, pulses, maize, biscuits, cookies & bakery items, honey, dairy products, and processed meat.

Despite having favourable agro-climatic conditions for the cultivation of a wide range of fruits and vegetables, the North Eastern Region's export potential remains unfulfilled. The buyer-seller meeting in Itanagar is part of APEDA's attempt to promote the state's agricultural goods on the worldwide market.

Rice, maize, millet, potato, ginger, mustard, huge cardamom, ginger, chillies, pumpkin, cucumber, pineapple, lemon, cherries, peach walnut, and other agricultural products are cultivated in Arunachal Pradesh.

The special BSM gave a chance for Arunachal Pradesh manufacturers and processors to present their products and boost exports, as well as wholesale and retail sales.

Dr M Angamuthu, Chairman of APEDA, underlined the need of marketing agricultural goods grown in Arunachal Pradesh as an export destination in his inaugural address.

APEDA's Agricultural Export Policy encourages states to capitalise on the potential of agricultural exports. APEDA intends to establish a platform for customers to obtain products directly from the producer group and processors.
