FINER thrusts on NE higher growth trajectory

New Delhi: FINER holds 3rd Dialogue under the aegis of NEMP Forum to boost development initiatives in the northeastern region.

Under the aegis of North East Member of Parliament (MP) Forum, the Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) in association with North East Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi) organized an Interactive session with the Members of Parliament and Ministers from the North Eastern Region on December 15 in New Delhi.

The key objective of the programme was to discuss the policy dispensation, need of attractive Policies and Investments in Northeast Region, the Startup ecosystem in NE India and other development imperatives required for the region to catapult the region to a higher growth trajectory.

Speaking on the occasion, the Guest of Honour Minister for Law and Justice and Chairman, North East MP Forum Kiren Rijiju, said he understands the growing need for new and better policy and how it can impact the growth and development of North East Region. He further assured full commitment and support of the MP Forum to push for a better policy and other development agenda for the Northeast.

The Minister of State, Petroleum & Natural Gas Government of India Rameswar Teli was also present in the meeting as a Guest of Honour. In his speech he said that the Government of India has released the Hydrocarbon Vision Document 2030 for NE Region with the aim of preparing a roadmap for the next 15 years to increase the production of oil and gas in NE. He further mentioned that FINER’s views & suggestion is very important for the Industrial Policy.

Many MPs of NER cutting across party lines were present including former CM of Tripura and Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha Biplab Deb graced the occasion.

The Secretary DoNER Lok Ranjan, Secretary of Technology Development Board Rajesh Kumar Pathak Rajendra Ratnoo, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) was also present in the meeting sharing their views.

Other than legislators and lawmaker, senior representatives from foremost departments and ministries like Technology Development Board, Department of Science and Technology, Invest India, Ministry of DoNER, Ministry of Food Processing, Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, eminent bankers like ex-chairman of SBI, Sri Rajneesh Kumar, were also present.

Earlier welcoming all the dignitaries and MPs, the present President FINER, Bajrang Lohia in his speech refers NE states as “Asta Laxmi”, and mentioned that the key objective of this interactive meet is to revisit the challenges and amplify opportunities of NER. They will join hands across party lines, brainstorming and resolve, so that the developmental agenda for the NE is jointly pursued.

He further said the region needs Investments more than ever before and await a new invigorating policy to kickstart the investment cycle in the region. He also said it is of vital importance in expediting infrastructure and connectivity work and address issues of Border Points to make Act East Policy a reality.

The meeting delved and discussed on creating a consensus to urge for new industrial policy with enhanced incentives for minimum 10 years, additional incentives for MSME sector and ease out transportation bottlenecks increasing and development of waterways to spur trade with South Asia and South East Asia.

The Vice-President of FINER Rajeev Agarwal gave brief presentation on need of attractive polices and investment in the region. He presented the views of the industry capturing the enablers to build a robust ecosystem to spur industrial growth and highlighted the sectors with competitive advantage.

Further, Chief Managing Director of NEDFI, PVSLN Murty gave a brief on NEDFI’s Role in Entrepreneurial Ecosystem of NE Region.
