First consignment from Assam to Middle East; Jackfruit, Green chilli exported to Dubai

Dhubri: A consignment of jackfruit and green chili was exported to Dubai from different villages under the Bilasipara subdivision of Dhubri district on Friday, giving the farmers of the area a new ray of hope.

It was informed that for the first-time Jackfruit will be exported from the state to the middle eastern countries. The process will continue every alternate day once it gets streamlined

The consignment exported on Friday has 1.5 tonnes of tender Jackfruit and 0.5 tonnes of green chilies which will be distributed by Lulu Group International through its chain of more than 200 supermarkets and hypermarkets throughout the Gulf countries. The consignment has been routed to Guwahati from where it will reach Mumbai through air trans part, and from Mumbai, it is destined to reach Dubai today evening.

Deputy commissioner Anbarmuthan MP flagged off the consignment on Friday and stated, "Its a special day for the agro-economic sector of Dhubri district as it will not only generate financial stability among the farmers but may also open new avenues for the farmers of the district."

He was hopeful that the export process will encourage farmers of the district.

FPO Green Chilli Producer Organisation Cooperative Society Ltd., promoted by Care India Foundation, through their 560 farmers from Bilasipara and Nayer Alga Development Block has produced the exported items and will supply the same in the future too.

District agriculture officer Mrigen Swargiary while addressing the press stated that this export will encourage the farmers from all over the district to produce quality products and adopt new technology in farming. "This is indeed a small step for the greater interest of the farmers.

Senior agriculture officer Ashok Srivastava said that jackfruit is being exported for the first time from the district commercially. If the export is streamlined, this event will change the fate of the district for the better."

Officials of Lulu Group International and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), along with Jai Shibani, SDO (Civil) of Bilasipara, Kanta Das, DDC, Dhubri. Sunita Rai, assistant general manager (regional in charge), Guwahati, APEDA, and Ravi Kumar GM of Lulu Group attended the inaugural programme.
