Guwahati: The Government of Meghalaya, in partnership with drone delivery startup TechEagle, has unveiled the NorthEast's first Drone Delivery Hub and Network.

The path breaking effort aims to increase Meghalaya's access to healthcare by swiftly and safely distributing essential supplies including medicines, diagnostic samples, vaccinations, blood, and blood components to the various regions of the state.

The first authorised drone flight was launched from Jengjal Sub Divisional Hospital (Hub) on the same day, and it took less than 30 minutes to carry medicines to Padeldoba Primary Health Care, compared to 2.5 hours by road.

In its inaugural flight, TechEagle's Vertiplane X3 Drone, which was 5X quicker than land transportation, carried a variety of medical supplies, including snake venom for two people, labetalol for four people, human albumin for one person, and cefotaxime (typhoid dosage) for 50 people.

According to Sangma, what they are witnessing is unparalleled anywhere in the world. He stated that the fact that Meghalaya will be the first state to institutionalise this project and have a system that could be spread to other parts of the State as well is a source of pride for the State of Meghalaya.

Rajkumar S, the project director of the Meghalaya Health Systems Strengthening Project, expressed his happiness at the success of the state's first attempt at such an endeavour. With this, remote and difficult-to-reach sections of the state will have access to life-saving medications and other necessities of healthcare.

He continued by saying that the drone station was designed to transport medications, vaccinations, blood samples, anti-venoms, etc. on a regular basis. A strategy to completely transform the current delivery system is required due to the major obstacles in last-mile delivery.

With Northeast's First Drone Delivery Network, TechEagle's solution will solve the issues of poor visibility, high delivery costs, out-of-date technology, and inaccessibility through road and rail networks.

The Chief Executive Officer and Founder of TechEagle, Vikram Singh, stated that the transformation of the logistics and healthcare supply chain is at the core of TechEagle's mission and that this project is a first significant step toward reaching the objective of universal access to logistics and healthcare around the world. We appreciate the chance to have a greater effect at the grassroots level that the Meghalayan government and MHSSP have given us.
