Guwahati: FlyBig starts its maiden flight services from Guwahati to Dibrugarh with 64 passengers onboard from Lokapriya Gopinath Borodoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Monday.

Assam tourism minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Monday flagged off the flight.

FlyBig services will be operated between Guwahati-Dibrugarh-Guwahati and Guwahati-Silchar-Guwahati under an agreement with the Assam government.

In a further push to intra-state air connectivity, the Assam government inked an MoU with Big Charter Private Limited (or Flybig) in March this year. Under the signed understanding, a decision was made to operate flights between Guwahati-Dibrugarh-Guwahati and Guwahati-Silchar-Guwahati routes on a daily basis.

As per the agreement, these flight services will be executed in non-Udan routes and will currently operate between Guwahati-Dibrugarh-Guwahati from today and Guwahati-Silchar-Guwahati from May 15.

The timings for Guwahati to Dibrugarh will be 9:35 am and Dibrugarh to Guwahati will be 3:10 pm every day. ATDCL will support FlyBig through Viability Gap Funding (VGF) and daily operation of flights in both sectors will be decided mutually by both parties.

Taking to tweeter, Mallabaruah said that it is a “very significant day for ATDC and I hope this initiative will definitely help in the developmental journey of Assam”.

Assam at present has a total of six-to-seven operational airports.
