Gautam Adani’s firm to supply power to Bangladesh from December.

Setting up a 1,600 MW thermal power in the Godda area of Jharkhand, Adani power, a subsidiary of Adani group is all set to supply power to Bangladesh. According to Gautam Adani, industrialist and chairman of the Adani group, the project will start from December 16, 2022 for the commemoration of Bijoy Dibosh (Victory day) in Bangladesh, to celebrate its victory from Pakistan in 1971. The supply will be made to the Bangladesh power development board through a transmission line.

Bangladesh is recognized by India as a significant partner under its “Neighbourhood First” strategy thoroughly emphasized by the Modi Government. Being crucial to Bangladesh, the Narendra Modi-led central government has pledged to assist not only Bangladesh but all of its neighbours in matters pertaining to trade, commerce, rivers, energy, transportation, connectivity, science and technology.

According to a story published in The Sentinel, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina is on a four day visit to India has plans to meet top ministers in the Indian cabinet. Already meeting external affairs minister S Jaishankar on September 5, the Bangladesh PM discussed issues of bilateral interest and importance. Jaishankar, expressing his views on this meeting Jaishankar wrote in the micro-blogging site Twitter saying “Delighted to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh this evening. The warmth and frequency of our leadership level contacts is a testimony to our close neighbourly partnership,” on September 5.

PM Hasina had also met PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday and addressed a joint press conference on the side-lines of bilateral talks between the two countries. To this PM Modi tweeted on September 6 which reads, “Trade between India- Bangladesh is increasingly rapidly. We have decided to extend co-operation in the IT, Space and Nuclear sectors. Talks are also underway b/w India and Bangladesh on power transmission lines.”

The bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh has grown from USD 9 billion to USD 18 billion between 2018 and 2022 making Bangladesh India’s biggest trade partner. In fact, Bangladesh is the fourth largest export destination for India.
