Guwahati: The Government of Assam has decided to develop tourism as an industry.
The modalities of the decision are now in the draft stage, officials in the Department of Tourism industry told Business Northeast.
The personnel available in this sector will get the benefit of the industrial policies. The benefits include 150% GST reclaim, stamp duty exemption and rationalisation of power tariff.
So far, the benefits were available for 3, 4 and 5-star hotels.
Regarding the price of the services, it is informed that it will depend on demand and supply. With such transformation, the infrastructure will develop particularly.
It is expected that tourists will get many opportunities to enjoy their travel in Assam, be it in rural or urban areas. However, nearness to a tourist spot will give more advantages.
Assam is endowed with plentiful natural and cultural resources which can form the basis for a very lucrative tourism industry, creating employment and generating income not only in the urban centres but also in the rural areas.
The need of the hour is to market Assam to renovate its image in the national and international markets as much as possible.
