Guwahati: The Department of Posts has signed an MoU with Government e-Marketplace [GeM] and CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd. [CSC-SPV] for advocacy, outreach, mobilisation, and capacity-building of last-mile government purchasers, sellers, and service providers in public procurement. Shri PK Singh, CEO, GeM, Shri Sanjay Kumar Rakesh, CEO, CSC-SPV, and Shri Ajay Kumar Roy, Chief General Manager, Parcel Directorate, Department of Posts, signed the MoU on May 18, 2022, in New Delhi.

The Memorandum of Understanding was developed following the successful integration of GeM and India Post on May 5, 2022. With this connectivity, all government buyers, sellers, and service providers may now access logistical services and facilities via GeM via India Post offices in the most distant corners of the country. Furthermore, more than 1.3 lakh DoP CSC stores would ease vendor onboarding on the GeM.

DoP will also instruct and teach 6000+ CSCs on the different postal products and services offered, as well as consignment packing in accordance with the Department of Posts Shipment Packaging Policy.

Shri Alok Sharma, Director General, Postal Services, stated during the event that "the new relationship with GeM and CSC-SPV would promote India Post as the chosen logistics service provider for sellers on GeM portal, assuring a high quality of service and speedier delivery of e-commerce advantages through a last-mile physical connection, spanning 1.5 lakh+ India Post Offices."

The MoU will promote local value chains through the Government's "Vocal for Local" and "Make in India" efforts, supporting the goal of achieving a self-sufficient "Atmanirbhar Bharat."
