Guwahati: The Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati saw a significant increase in passengers, with nearly 5.2 lakh passengers in May - a 15% increase from the previous year, officials said.
"The airport handled 3554 scheduled flights and nearly 3342 Haj passengers, a decrease from the previous year", said an airport spokesperson. The top domestic destinations from Guwahati are Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, while the top international destinations are Singapore, Paro, Bangkok, and Kualampur.
Chief airport officer Utpal Baruah said he expects "consistent growth" in the summer schedule, with a sharpening rise in passengers.
"The airport is optimistic about a strong surge during the summer schedule season", he said in a statement.
