Guwahati : The Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewerage Board (Guwahati Jal Board) has initiated the process of opening registrations for around 6,624 new drinking water household connections in various major localities of the city.
In a significant pronouncement to assist poorer families, the Board announced that ration card holders are eligible to apply for House Service Connections (HSC) under the Guwahati Jal Board at a fully subsidised rate and the facility is available up to 31 August 2025.

The regions that fall under the scheme are Rupnagar, Srimantapur, Birubari Hill Area, Kalapahar Colony Bazar Hill Side, Lutuma, Lokbondhu Nagar, and Krishna Kanta Handique Nagar, among others. The scheme will also be made available to those residing at GMCH Hill Road and TV Tower Nursing Hostel Road.
Authorities have urged eligible residents to take advantage of the scheme before the deadline. The move is part of the Board’s broader initiative to improve access to safe and reliable drinking water in the expanding urban landscape of Guwahati.
