A BNE Exclusive with Shri Triranga Bharatia Bora, Director, Horticulture & F.P. Assam

The Directorate of Horticulture is trying to upgrade small Horticultural nurseries providing assistance to the farmers/nurserymen under HMNEH scheme for the production of quality planting materials of fruits and vegetables locally to avoid the import of planting materials from outside the state. The Directorate is also producing quality planting materials of fruits in the Govt. nursery situated in Bornihat, Kamrup (M) and they are happy to inform us that the nursery has become self-sustained and running without financial help from the Govt.

 Few Initiatives adopted under the scheme

  • Emphasis will be given to the value chain development of commercial horticultural crops like Assam Lemon and product promotion events will be organized in four metro cities of India.
  • Two no’s of the supply chain for agricultural produces will be created in Guwahati and Jorhat covering nearby districts and creating a better marketing facility for farmers.
  • The setting of more no’s of small food processing units, cold room/ cold storage in the private sector.
  • More no.s of Bamboo based poly house will be set up for production of off-season agricultural produce.
  • Setting up of Centre of Excellence under Israel Agricultural Project at Khetri, Kamrup (M).

Progress

In the last FY 2021-22, Rs4637.04 fund has been received under central share and Rs1074.04 has been received under state share. Out of this Rs3137.04 of the central share and RS711.60 of the central sector have been utilized thus far.
