In order to elevate the economic conditions of farmers in the country, India adopts smart farming activities.

The country is adopting smart farming methods through technology and innovation in the agriculture sector. This initiative is expected to bring in substantial and good days by raising the income of farmers.

At the same time, the Government of india, decides to implement a Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM), which includes India Digital Ecosystem of Agriculture (IDEA), Farmers' Database, Unified Farmers Service Interface (UFSI), funding to the states on the new technology (NeGPA), revamping Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre (MNCFC), Soil Health, Fertility and profile mapping.

According to a report published by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) in 2019, there were more than 450 argi-based tech-driven startups in India as of 2019. This number has seen a huge growth during the past two years as the sector witnessed a surge in investments and funding.

What is Smart Farming?

It is an initiative taken by the Government to make farming connected and intelligent. It is a step for the uplifting of the farming sector by helping them to reduce overall costs and improve the quality and quantity of products, the sustainability of agriculture and the experience for the consumer.

Benefits of smart farming:

Smart farming enables careful management of the demand forecast and delivery of goods to market just in time to reduce waste. Precision agriculture is focused on managing the supply of land and, based on its condition, concentrating on the right growing parameters. Control systems manage sensor input, delivering remote information for supply and decision support, in addition to the automation of machines and equipment for responding to emerging issues and production support.

IoT technology helps better control agricultural processes to reduce production risks and enhances the ability to predict production results, which helps farmers better plan and distribute product.
