New Delhi: India and the United States are in the process of finalising a pact aimed at enhancing collaboration in the area of critical minerals, a key topic during Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal's upcoming visit to Washington. Goyal, who is visiting the US from September 30 to October 3 at the invitation of US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, will discuss measures to expand and diversify critical mineral supply chains between the two countries.
As per reports, september 29 statement from India’s commerce ministry, the two nations are working on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost bilateral cooperation in critical minerals such as cobalt, copper, lithium, nickel, and rare earth elements. These minerals are vital for producing clean energy technologies, including batteries for electric vehicles and wind turbines.
During the visit, Goyal will also meet with US Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai to review progress under the India-US Trade Policy Forum and explore ways to enhance bilateral trade, which stood at $120 billion in 2023-24.
Goyal and Raimondo will co-chair the India-USA CEO Forum on October 2 and the 6th India-USA Commercial Dialogue on October 3. These events will focus on promoting sustainable economic growth, improving investment conditions, and strengthening ties between businesses in both countries.
