New Delhi: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between the agriculture and farmers welfare ministry and the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations during the global millets (Shree Anna) conference.

Narendra Singh Tomar, union minister for agriculture and farmers' welfare, praised the World Food Programme for its work in advancing food self-sufficiency and backing national and international initiatives to guarantee long-term answers to the problem of hunger.

He stated that the purpose of the International Year of Millets is to promote the Indian Shree Anna, its recipes, and value-added goods so that they become universally recognized as a popular movement. He wanted to improve the connections that India has with other nations in the farming sector.

The MoU between WFP and the Government of India for collaboration between 2023 and 2027 was inked during the global meeting in front of Agriculture Minister Tomar. According to the statement, Elizabeth Faure, a WFP representative and country director in India, and Manoj Juneja, the deputy chief executive director, management, and chief financial officer of the UNWFP, were present during this.

Apart from Guyana, Tomar also held meetings with his counterparts from Zambia, Suriname, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka.
