Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani on Thursday projected that India’s media and entertainment industry could expand to over $100 billion within the next decade, significantly boosting employment and entrepreneurship across sectors.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the WAVES 2025 summit, Ambani highlighted that the current valuation of the sector stands at $28 billion, with vast untapped potential. “This growth will not only generate millions of jobs but also create a ripple effect across allied industries,” he said.

To realise this vision, Ambani advocated for substantial investments in advanced content production clusters across India. He emphasised the need to skill thousands of young talents in areas such as animation, VFX, and emerging technologies. He also called for strong incentives for intellectual property (IP) creation, AI-driven innovation, and gamification.

“India must create an enabling and empowering regulatory environment, one that nurtures imagination and inclusivity,” Ambani stated.

Calling the entertainment and cultural sector India’s “real power” rather than just soft power, Ambani underlined the role of storytelling in uniting and inspiring people in a fragmented global landscape. “No other country can match India’s storytelling strength. We must confidently take our narratives global to help heal a divided world,” he added.

He pointed out that India’s unique blend of storytelling and digital innovation is transforming the way content is created and consumed. The adoption of AI and immersive technologies, he said, will further amplify the reach and emotional depth of Indian stories.

“I believe India’s immensely talented young creators, equipped with these cutting-edge tools, are poised to dominate the global entertainment industry with world-class blockbusters,” Ambani concluded.
