Guwahati: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal stated that the Indian cruise sector has the potential to increase tenfold over the next decade, owing to growing demand and disposable incomes.

The conference was attended by around 300 participants representing stakeholders such as foreign and Indian cruise line operators, investors, industry experts and consultants, senior officials from the centre and state governments, ports, marine boards, and tourist boards.

"The government of India recognises this potential and is determined to position India as a global cruise hub with state-of-the-art infrastructure for both ocean and river cruises," he said on Saturday, May 14th, after launching the first Incredible India International Cruise Conference 2022 in Mumbai.

Sonowal stated that India is a great cruise destination and that various attractions along its 7,500 km of coastline and enormous river systems have yet to be shown to the world.

He stated that global players have expressed a significant interest in developing cruise tourism in India and that with the construction of appropriate infrastructure and the adoption of current technologies, India would undoubtedly become one of the world's top tourism destinations.

Minister of State Shri Shripad Naik elaborated on the Ministry of Tourism and Ports, Shipping and Waterways' efforts, saying, "Four theme-based coastal destination circuits such as Gujarat Pilgrimage tours, West Coast – Cultural and scenic tours, South Coast – Ayurvedic wellness tours, and East Coast – Heritage tourism have been developed to activate cruise demand."
