Indian Railway launches custom tour for Sangai, Hornbill Festival

Guwahati: The Indian Railways has launched a custom tour package for the visitors of Sangai and Hornbill Festival in Manipur and Nagaland. The package has been named as the Sangai and Hornbill Festival Tour Package.

The package will last for seven days and six nights. The interested parties have to reach Delhi for availing the service. It includes all flight tickets, accommodation, travel insurance and cab fares for local trips. The package will include breakfast and dinner. The tickets are available on a first come first basis.

According to reports, the tour will cover the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland and the Sangai Festival of Manipur. Both of them are important celebrations that attract multiple national and international tourists. These are also key events for the tourism sector of the states.

The Sangai Festival of Manipur will flag off on November 21 and continue till November 30. The aim of this festival is to spread awareness of the Sangai or dancing deer of the state. It also showcases the culture, traditions and food of different communities of Manipur. The event will be organised near Loktak Lake near the capital city.

Nagaland's Hornbill Festival flags off soon after Sangai Festival. The opening celebration of the event is on December 1 and it continues till December 10. It aims to bring all the tribes of the state under one umbrella and promote unity in the state. Over the years, it has become one of the biggest crowd-pullers of the entire northeast region. Traditional dance and music, dresses and cuisines are showcased in this event.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation decided to venture out as a full-fledged travel organiser offering a wide variety of services including hotel and airline bookings.

It also started with custom packages for different tourist circuits in the country. This new package comes under the same list of packages and targets those travellers who want to visit the North-eastern part of the country.
