India's Foodgrain production in 2021-22 rose by 23.80 MT- a record higher than last 5 years

Guwahati: The production of foodgrains in the country is estimated at a record 314.51 million tonnes, which is higher by 3.77 million tonnes than the production of foodgrains during 2020-21, according to the third advance estimates of the production of major agricultural crops for 2021-22 released by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

The average output of foodgrains in 2021-22 is 23.80 million tonnes more than in the preceding five years (2016-17 to 2020-21).

Rice, maize, legumes, oilseeds, gram, rapeseed, mustard, and sugarcane output are expected to set records.

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar stated that the record production of so many crops is the result of the Central Government's farmer-friendly policies under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, as well as the farmer's tireless hard work and the scientists' diligence.

The evaluation of agricultural output is based on data obtained from states and corroborated with information from other sources.

Rice output is expected to reach a record 129.66 million tonnes in 2021-22. It is 13.23 million tonnes greater than the five-year average of 116.43 million tonnes.

Wheat production is expected to be 106.41 million tonnes in 2021-22. It is 2.53 million tonnes greater than the five-year average wheat production of 103.88 million tonnes.

Nutri / Coarse Cereals output is expected at 50.70 million tonnes, up 4.12 million tonnes over the previous five-year average of 46.57 million tonnes.

Total pulses output in 2021-22 is expected to be a record 27.75 million tonnes, up 3.92 million tonnes from the previous five-year average of 23.82 million tonnes.

Total oilseed output in the country is expected to reach a record 38.50 million tonnes in 2021-22, up 2.55 million tonnes from 35.95 million tonnes in 2020-21. Furthermore, the output of oilseeds in 2021-22 is 5.81 million tonnes greater than the average production of oilseeds.

Sugarcane output in the country is expected to reach a record 430.50 million tonnes in 2021-22, up from 373.46 million tonnes on average.
