Delegates from Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Germany, England and US are participating in the conference which will have eight technical sessions.

Manipur Governor Sushri Anusuiya Uikey inaugurated the conference.

She stressed the need for adopting natural farming while asserting that nowadays people are cautious about their health and taking care even in food they eat, mostly after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Keeping in view the ill effects of inorganic food she said that people are avoiding it. She encouraged the consumption of organic food as it is free from fertilizers and pesticides.

She added that as such, large scale adoption of such farming processes will be the best option available to cater the needs of people.

The Governor continued that modern agriculture has increased the rate of food production and made the country self-sufficient but at the same time we are facing many problems.

By using fertilizers and pesticides, soil degradation has increased and also pollution to the environment.

Anusuiya said that to promote natural farming, the Centre has initiated schemes like National Agriculture Development Scheme and Indian Natural farming System and a total of Rs 4980.99 lakh was released for the implementation of the schemes.

The government has set a target of helping one crore farmer to adopt natural farming in the next three years.

Earlier, the Governor opened an exhibition on natural farming products of innovative farmers from Manipur and other Northeastern states.
