After two years of subdued celebrations, this year's Dhanteras has been a boon to the business community. And given that the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras, where people buy metal was extended to two days, have helped the jewellery stores substantially.

This year the jewellery stores of Guwahati were overwhelmed with the response as the sales were impressive. Several jewellery stores in Guwahati offered discounts to attract customers.

Sagar Sinha, Manager of Manik Chand and Sons told Business-Northeast, “After two years of the pandemic, we have seen that customers have been more this year. This year since Dhanteras was for two days, on both days we have seen a very impressive footfall.” He also said that ornaments of silver, gold, and platinum have gotten a very good response since the wedding season is also approaching.

“In Dhanteras we also gave offers like 25 percent off on making charges, 5 percent off on diamond and platinum jewellery and the most special offer was if a customer shops of Rs.1 Lakh or more, they would receive free silver coins,” said Sagar Sinha, Manager at Manik Chand Sons.

The best sellers in most of the shops were mostly dainty and lightweight jewellery items other than the 24-carat and 22-carat gold coins.

Vikas Soni, partner of L.Gopal and Sons said, “We almost had more than 500 customers on both the days of Dhanteras, and the customers shopped a lot this year as compared to the last two years as many people were suffering from a financial crisis due to lockdown.”

“We sold a lot of diamond rings which ranged from Rs.10,000 to Rs.40,000 and the response for silver coins this year is very overwhelming”, said Soni speaking to Business-Northeast.

Overall the response to this Dhanteras was very good and many stores have also recovered from the two years of losses that they faced due to the pandemic.
