Guwahati: Local biz house to export agri produce to help local farmers

The ABM Agri Industry and Research Private Limited will export pumpkin, mustard oil and rice to the nearby countries of Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh — an initiative that will improve the livelihood of the local farmers.

Around 1000 farmers across Assam are associated with this project, which will start with the export of 30 tonnes of vegetables and 25 tonnes of rice everyday with a budget of Rs 15 crore. The Department of Commerce and Industry will provide 90% subsidy on transportation.

Chairman and Chief Managing Director, Mohammad Mehdi Alam Choudhury, said the demonstration trading for the same will start from February 10.

In the beginning, black and red rice varieties will be exported. Later, varieties such as Joha, Aizawng, Ranjit and Sona will also be added to the list. Other agricultural produce like tomatoes and cabbage will also be exported over time.
