Guwahati: Despite the Covid- 19 Mahalaxmi Continental Ltd, a subsidiary of Guwahati-head- quartered Mahalaxmi Group, the North-east based company has exported a consignment of low ash metallurgical (LAM) coke to Italy.

A vessel, MV AS ELBIA, carrying 21,590 MT of LAM coke (blast furnace grade) had set sail for Italy from Paradip Port in Odisha on September 4, stated a press release by Mahalaxmi Group.

The consignment is meant for Acciaierie d'Italia, which specializes in the production of carbon steel products. Rajesh Thapar, Group President Trading, Mahalaxmi Group, stated in the release. This is the second export order executed by the company after it dispatched 22,000 MT of LAM coke to Indonesia in July this year.

LAM coke is a critical raw material for the steel industry.

However, Mahalaxmi Continental Ltd being from the Northeast has been able to procure regular export orders by meeting the international quality standards, thereby putting the Northeast region on the global map of major exporters," Thapar said.

The group has further planned to export more such consignments to different parts of the world, including Southeast Asia, every month.

The Mahalaxmi Group has its power and coke manufacturing units in Assam, West Bengal, and Odisha, through which it caters to the needs of steel, ferro alloys, and silicon firms.
