Guwahati: Thongam Biswajit Singh, the agriculture minister of Manipur, introduced direct benefit transfer (DBT) to farmers in Imphal under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) Scheme Phase-III (2020-2023).

A total of Rs 7.87 crore would be supplied as assistance to 7,000 enrolled farmers under MOVCDNER, Phase-III (2020-23) administered by the Manipur government's agricultural department.

There are 25,000 farmers enrolled under Phase III, with 7,000 registered under the agricultural department and 18,000 registered under the horticulture department.

On May 5, Chief Minister N Biren Singh started the direct benefit transfer for 18,000 registered farmers under the horticulture department under MOVCDNER, Phase III (2020-23).

Minister Biswajit Singh stated that in commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the government has been attempting to emphasise farmers by offering help and advantages, for which several initiatives have been implemented.

The minister stated that direct benefit transfer has been established to bridge the gap in giving help directly to recipients, and that the government is accountable for good governance.

The support offered to the 7000 recipients is supplied through a specific fund for a specific purpose. Even though the help is limited, making the plan relevant is dependent on the recipients, he noted.
