During the event, Mr Suklabaidya emphasized that passenger and driver safety is their top priority. He urged boat owners and engineers to strictly adhere to safety norms and standards while operating the boats. The minister, along with officials, inspected the country boats and directed the IWT officials and engineers to ensure proper safety standards and quality of boats approved by the IWCS (Inland Water Country Boat Services).

Under the "Jibondinga" scheme, each boat owner will receive 100% subsidy from the World Bank fund and the State Budget, along with free marine engines for the beneficiaries. The scheme falls under the Assam Inland Water Transport Project and is managed by the Directorate of Inland Water Transport, with funding collaboration from the Assam government.

As of now, 90% of the work has been completed in upper Assam under this scheme. However, lower Assam presents a challenge as many boats, especially those from Dhubri, have yet to get registered. Currently, 371 engines have been installed, benefiting 386 individuals under this scheme. Another 200-300 beneficiaries will be covered in the next phase.

Additionally, the minister mentioned that 300 crew members have been trained so far.

The "Jibondinga" scheme aims to enhance the safety standards and operating conditions of country boat ferry services in Assam, with a focus on providing subsidies, marine engines, and training to boat owners and crew members.
