Shillong: James K Sangma, former Cabinet minister of Meghalaya and chairman of the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), has been interacting with experts from Karnataka to find a way to strategise an industrial road map for the northeastern state.

Sangma visited the southern state earlier this month and had a meeting with the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC). He met KSIIDC managing director MR Ravi and executive director DP Prakash.

Taking to Twitter, Sangma said, “The corporation is working on some innovative ideas and policies for driving Karnataka's growth engine and their inputs will certainly be useful for us as we plan and strategize our industrial roadmap.”

He also visited the NASSCOM 10,000 startups warehouse that is incubating several aspiring entrepreneurs. The 10,000 Startups Incubate (Warehouse) programme is a plug-and-play co-working space for tech startups, which are supported by respective state governments. The programme was introduced in 2013 to set up a micro-ecosystem where startup founders can work together, share their learning and best practices with each other.

“In the field of IT Innovation, NASSCOM is doing some noteworthy when it comes to startup incubation and learning. As we chart out our industrial growth strategy, such learnings will greatly benefit MIDC in the journey forward,” Sangma tweeted earlier this month.

Meghalaya has its own PRIME programme under which young grassroots entrepreneurs are supported. The state government is looking to give more leverage to this scheme.

The MIDC chairman also had a discussion with the Centre for Intellectual Property Research and Advocacy (CIPRA) at National Law School of India University in Bengaluru on the advancement of Intellectual Property Rights at MIDC.

“We received some great insights on how industries across the country are using IPR for advancing economic activities, which will be useful for Meghalaya going forward,” he said.
