A BNE Exclusive with Shri Triranga Bharatia Bora, Director, Horticulture & F.P. Assam

The Directorate of Horticulture and food processing Assam is the nodal agency for implementing this central sector scheme namely, MISSION ORGANIC VALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT – FOR NORTHEAST REGION (MOVCD-NER) for the state of Assam which facilitates every farmer producer company in various component of value chain production cum certification, value chain processing, and value chain marketing for entire 3 years in a phased manner. Under this scheme, 16 nos. of organic FPCs are formed and 5 nos. is under process. The total organic area under 3rd party certification is 20,000 hectares involved by 20,300 farmers in 18 districts. They are Kamrup Metro, Kamrup Rural, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Nalbari, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Cachar, Morigaon, Baksa, Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong, Tinsukia, Majuli, and Golaghat.

Key Achievements -                 

  • Creation of on-farm input infrastructure (Vermicompost unit and Vermiwash unit) = 20,000 nos.
  • Development of exportable certified organic product in 10,000- hectare area with crops like pineapple, red rice, Ginger and turmeric, and another 10,000-hectare area is under process. Training and hand holding support is provided by concerned resource institute as per Govt.of India guideline
  • Setting up of 32 nos. of collection center with necessary Agrimachineries and tools in 16nos of FPCs.
  • Setting up 16nos. of custom hiring centre in 16 nos.of FPCs where tractor with all accessories / power tiller, plastic crates, spare @ Rs 10 lakhs per FPC.
  • 6 nos. of transport vehicle (4 wheeler) in 6 FPC at 50% subsidized rate.
  • 1 refrigerated vehicle (4 tones capacity) to 1FPC.

1 big integrated processing unit for spices, 15 nos of small processing unit, 2 nos. of integrated back house, 1 nos. of cold room, 1 nos. of banana ripening chamber under value chain processing is under process which will be completed within 6 months.

Creation of Organic Mission Society

Department of Agriculture is very much thankful to the honourable CM for his personal intervention for according cabinet approval for creation of organic mission in the name and style - ASSAM STATE ORGANIC MISSION AGENCY under the Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing Assam. The process of registration of this agency under society registration act 1960 is in the final stage.

Export Promotion of Organic products from the state

 The state has already participated in different international exhibitions like Bio-fact India, during the last 3 years with the board of directors of these FPCs with their organic products. Few numbers of FPCs as able to export their product as follows

 A. Tetella Agro-organic producer company limited exported 150 MT Ginger and Turmeric to Swaziland (South Africa) during 2017-to 18.

B. Hmar Agro-organic producer company limited exported 10 MT of Pineapple to Dubai

C. Panbari Bodofa Agro-organic producer company limited exported 10 MT Assam lemon to London during 2021-22 during 2018-19.

D. Tetelia Agro-organic producer company limited has made an agreement with Lulu group to export 300 MT Ginger in this month with the help of APEDA.

Facilitate the Horticulture producer to market their product by themselves

The Directorate is going to develop an E-marketing platform involving an interesting bank for which 3 parties is engaged to develop a farmer-friendly E-marketing portal. For marketing of organic branded products under MOVCD, a retail outlet will be developed in a prime location. of Guwahati city. FiCs under APART (Horticulture) will be provided 14 nos. of 4 wheelers to market their produces, Fifteen 4 wheelers will be provided to 15 nos of FPCs under MOVCD to facilitate marketing of their produces We hope that in a post-Covid situation where all the restrictions for movement of agriculture produces are lifted, farmers now in a position to market their products in a better manner in comparison with the covid restriction period.

To create a Panchayat (VCDC) wise database of growers

 The directorate has received approval from the Govt to develop a baseline survey app for an intensive baseline survey of Horticulture produces Central Govt. has already provided Rs 1.1 Cr for the initiation of the survey. Accordingly, as per advice of the Vice-Chancellor of Assam Agriculture University, preparation of a draft plan is under process and the survey will be started from September 2022 after the winter season is over.
