Guwahati: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on 28 June 2021, between the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and North Eastern Space Application Centre ( NESAC) to carry out several initiatives jointly for the development and also create a large number of skilled professionals in the field of the North-Eastern region of India.

The initiatives planned under the partnership include various internship programmes, joint degree programmes, short-term training, and student-exchange programmes and joint projects.

The partnership formed between the two institutions will further adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to study disaster and ways to tackle them in a region which is highly prone to flood, earthquake, landslide, and erosion.

Since the north-eastern region of India is highly prone to such disasters, the joint venture will find ways to tackle them in innovative ways for the development of this region.

These disasters may sometimes cause a hindrance in the path of regional development and reduce the key to success, said Prof Sitharaman.

Also, the signing of MoU between the institutions is a historic mark for the future build-up of their intellectual relationship proposing more opportunities.

Moreover, it will also strengthen capacity building, training, and research in the NE region states Director of NESAC Dr. PLN Raju.

During this current pandemic, the world has learned a great lesson that economy and development can fall anytime, which can be prevented in the future through a proper strategy and skilled manpower development.
