NABARD supports livelihood programme in Arunachal Pradesh

NABARD sponsored the launch of a livelihood and enterprise development programme (LEDP) for Self Help Groups (SHGs) on operating sewing machines in the Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh. Implemented by the NGO, Bethel Life Care Charitable Trust (BLCCT), the project was launched in collaboration with Changlong Community Resource Management Society (CCRMS), Changlang.

The Arunachal Pradesh government is giving immense importance to the promotion of livelihood schemes for the people of the state, particularly among rural women.

Around 30 Self Help Group members were enrolled for the first batch of training in the NABARD sponsored programme. 90 SHG members will be trained in this phase wise programme to upgrade their skills.

According to The Arunachal Times, the NABARD District Development Manager, Kamal Roy, informed the participants that the LEDPs envisaged the conduct of livelihood promotion programmes in clusters.

He further added that there is provision for intensive training for skill building, refresher training, backwards-forward linkages and hand holding, as well as escort support.

He further added that the project also encompasses the complete value chain and offers end-to-end solutions to SHG members. It will cover 15 to 30 groups in a cluster of contiguous villages from where SHG members might be selected.

The BLCCT President, Chandan Prasad, further claimed that the training will empower rural women for earning better income opportunities and self-sustenance.
